Embezzlement

Embezzlement is considered a white collar crime.

It often occurs when you are given access to property or money belonging to a company (or sometimes an individual) to manage or monitor, and you covertly misappropriate those assets for personal gain instead.

Charges for embezzlement offenses in South Florida can range from a 2nd degree misdemeanor to a 1st degree felony, depending on the value of the property involved.

A 2nd degree misdemeanor charge will result from the embezzlement of under $100. It is punishable by a maximum of 60 days in jail and a fine of $500. On the other end of the spectrum, you could be charged with a 1st degree felony if the offense involves $100,000 or more. A 1st degree felony is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

A conviction for embezzlement will have enormous repercussions on your life. One of the worst is becoming unemployable. No company in South Florida or elsewhere wants to hire someone convicted of a financial crime against another company.

That one reason alone is why, if charged with embezzlement, you must immediately seek a defense attorney with a long record of defending white collar crimes. You don’t want an embezzlement conviction on your record!

We will immediately marshal our team of resources, including top-notch forensic experts, to scrutinize all the facts and cut through what are frequently complicated aspects of this type of case. The prosecution must prove an intention of fraud beyond a reasonable doubt. It is our job to aggressively defend you and create that doubt. We will also work diligently to have your charges dropped, reduced or negotiated down to probation rather than jail or prison time.

We can try your case in both State and Federal court, not something all defense attorneys can do. We have you covered – call The Law Office of Joshua W. Deckard right away.
